extended

We've extended the Berlin application to be open through May 15. We won't be able to start making our final choices + pairings until after the 15th, so we thought to give interested parties a few extra days to get it done.

Preview [JCP 2007]

Artwork by Lawson Deming / Andy Ayala, JCP 2007

We've had a lot of questions as to what the project will be like. And, while we want to keep secret a lot of the twists and turns, we've re-released a few key posts from last year's blog to show what's possible. From the looks of the application pool, this year's cadre will be extremely talented.

If you are adventurous and talented yourself, don't miss the chance to collaborate with some really amazing artists. Apply here for both Los Angeles and Berlin.

How Can I Help?

Glad you asked!

First of all, this project will not run without quality artists who are intrigued by the premise. Please, if you are in Los Angeles or Berlin during the month of June and are interested in the project, submit an application. If you know other artists of any sort who you think could contribute in a unique way, please encourage them to apply.

If you're a cool company and you'd like to sponsor a part of the project, we have some packages available. Please contact Chris if you are interested.

If you are in Berlin or Los Angeles during June and would like to assist with the physical coordination of the project, by all means we'd love to have you. Contact Jonny for that one.

Finally, if you have any ideas on how to enhance the collaborative nature of the project, please contact either of us.

New Blood

As applications for the project have been rolling in, we wanted to make sure that everyone is clear on the format of the project, so here are the nitty-gritty guidelines [for both LA & Berlin].

  • Artists will be paired by the curators in partnerships of two
  • Each artist will be responsible for the piece in 4-5 day increments
  • At no point should an artist try to verbally contact his/her partner
  • Each artist is expected to exchange work on time
  • Limitations on media and scale or artwork will be determined by the curators at a later date
  • Found representatives will be chronicling the progress of each piece
  • If you have problems playing well with others, we respect that. Just please don't apply for this project. We want this to be a positive experience for all involved.
  • For fairness' sake, finished work will be sold at a set price point for all of the pieces [1/3 goes to the gallery, 1/3 to artist #1, 1/3 to artist #2] to be determined by Found
  • Adventurous creativity is a must

As this is a unique process, there will likely be many more questions, so please don't hesitate to post them as comments. We will publicly answer them as best we can.

Photos from the Reception

Here's what I took---I was kind of occupied trying to make those introductions to artists and diffuse unstable baby personalities. If you'd like to share any, please email to me (jonny@foundla.com) or post as comment. Thanks.
